I just got back from Social Media Marketing World – an amazing conference put on by Social Media Examiner.
I learned so much and I want to share it with you!
And my number 1 take away?
2016 is the Year of Live Video!
21% of marketers claim video marketing is the most important form of content marketing.
73% of marketers plan to increase their use of video in 2016.
It’s a simple way to grow the know, like, and trust factor and give your fans and customers a new way to learn about who you are and what you do.
Only a year ago, we were introduced to live video streaming for the masses, first with Meerkat, then with Periscope.
In fact, Periscope was actually introduced on the first day of Social Media Marketing World in 2015, and it was huge! Because all of a sudden, you could broadcast live and connect with others in a new way.
In August of last year, Facebook decided to jump in the game with Facebook Live – at first this was just for celebrities.
Blab was introduced as a space for communities to chat live.
Then, just a few weeks ago, Facebook Live was rolled out for everyone. So now, you can go live from your Personal Page, your Fan Page (as I’m doing), and even from your Groups!
So, with all the live videos options, which one are you choosing?
For me, it’s Facebook all the way – for 3 main reasons.
1. If you know anything about me, you know that I love Facebook. It’s the social media platform where I spend most of my time. And I’ve invested time growing my audience both on my Fan Page and in my Facebook Group.
2. I like that the videos stay on your timeline once you’re finished. On Periscope, they disappear after 24 hours, which is appealing for some people. For me, not as much.
3. Facebook doesn’t usually tell us how the algorithm works to show our News Feed. But this time, they did! The News Feed will give preferential treatment of live videos. It will notify friends and pin it to the top of the News Feed.
So with that, I did something brand new (and a bit scary)… I went live – first to introduce this blog post, then each day Monday through Friday to share what I learned from Social Media Marketing World.
